Slice of Life

My Writer’s Journal

We may as well start at the beginning. How do we begin to write? We first have to get ideas. Notice I said get, not have. I don’t know about you but I rarely “have” ideas. I “get” them. So I decided it was time for me to begin toย carry my very own writer’s notebook so I could record the ideas that I get. Today I finally began.

This is what was listed in my writer’s notebook today (well, really yesterday)…

SOL idea notebook

Sleep – How a lack of it for a year affected my life in and out of school

Pea Soup and Friendship

Tapping Time – Old Man Spring releases his grip as tree tapping for maple syrup begins

PROUD – How I felt rereading my kids’ writing today

Let the month of writing begin with many a list of ideas.

  1. I always have good intentions to put together a journal or something but I don’t. What I do is write my life story on Facebook and think…wow that could have been a great blog post! I have got to stop doing that and putting things on my blog.

    • I had to laugh when I read this Theresa because I have done the same thing so many times! Hopefully this SOL will get us putting this stuff on our blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. My writer’s notebook is my favourite book and as valuable as my purse (not in a money way). I couldn’t leave home with out it and would be devastated if I lost it. I hope you thoroughly enjoy keeping your writers notebook. You will treasure it very soon I am sure. I really liked the photo of your writing you included in this post. I love seeing other people notebooks. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Oh, I’d love to see your notebook! We have had authors come in to our school and my favorite part of their talk is always when they show and tell about their notebooks. One wonderful author has his from when he was young! Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. What a beautiful journal. I think lists helps me to have a focus. This year I am writing posts when I think of them so I have some in reserve. I don’t know about you, but I hate the pressure of having to think of something after a day of work. Can’t wait to read about tapping for maple syrup. Yum!

    • Thanks. Having a nice journal makes me want to write in it! I think I’ll get a sparkly pen too ๐Ÿ™‚ I love your idea of writing posts when you think of them. I have worried about the pressure of writing after a long or hard day at school. Thanks for the suggestion. And I will be sure to write about tapping! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Great because when I first read the word “tapping” I thought tap dancing. LOL! Funny how our schema works.

      • Ha, that’s funny. But it makes total sense. Who taps trees anyway?! I will be sure to post a picture of what tree tapping looks like ๐Ÿ™‚
